Are you fighting melancholy? Anxiety? Panic?
Me too.
I feel like every moment I'm not helping make a difference is time lost.
The policies outlined in Project 2025—supported by Trump and Musk—raise serious concerns about our democratic institutions. They share concerning similarities with government tactics that have undermined democratic processes in the past.
Understanding "Othering"
Historically, authoritarianism often begins with "othering"—focusing public attention on specific groups while potentially undermining rights that affect everyone.
This approach often uses distraction tactics—creating division so we miss the bigger picture. It's worth taking time to separate fact from fiction.
If you or someone close to you belongs to a group being targeted, those 2 AM panic attacks might feel all too familiar.
I hope my concerns prove unnecessary (nothing would make me happier!), but consider:
Do you have transgender loved ones concerned about their rights?
Are women in your life worried about access to comprehensive healthcare?
Could economic instability affect your family's financial security?
Are you or your community concerned about voting access or social programs?
Do you know families worried about immigration policies?
Might education debt relief changes impact people working in essential services?
If these issues seem distant from your life, count yourself so very fortunate—and perhaps consider how supporting others strengthens all of us.
Balancing Concern with Perspective
These worries might seem excessive. Yet history suggests that recognizing early warning signs is typically wiser than dismissing them.
Since the election, many of us feel we've taken on an additional role—staying informed, noting policy changes, and considering their impacts. Some days, it's hard to focus on everyday life with these thoughts swirling.
The good news? We don't have to address anything alone. Sharing the work makes it lighter for everyone.
